I had never heard of Victoria-by-the-Sea before, even though I'd been to Prince Edward Island many times. So I was all the more surprised when we visited this pretty little seaside village on the south coast of the island province in eastern Canada this summer.

The view of Lake Winnepesaukee's landscape from the terrace and many of the rooms at Castle in the Clouds is breathtaking. From there, we look down on the various bays of the lake with the unpronounceable name.

We pass pastures where black-and-white spotted cows graze on the fresh spring grass. Every now and then, we see a sign advertising a maple syrup farm. Those who come here want to enjoy themselves. And Stowe, Vermont, USA, is the perfect place for that.
Visitor centers are lined up along the Panorama Route of the Skyline Trail through the Blue Ridge Mountains, providing information about the national park and its fauna and flora. There are restaurants and picnic areas. The lookouts offer views of the forest hills and the Shenandoah Valley.
