Bora HotSpa Resort

At first glance, the Bora Hot Spa Resort in Radolfzell seems in Baden-Württemberg somewhat strange in its green surroundings. A straight-angled building with a facade made of wooden beams that meet at straight and oblique angles stands on a narrow street, which is also the entrance to the marina in Radolfzell. In front of and behind tall willow trees soar into the sky, and the Lake Constance One can only guess at it rather than actually see it. From the outside, you can't immediately tell what lies hidden inside and behind the building.

A touch of Japan at Lake Constance in the Bora Hot Spa Resort in Radolfzell

The first thing that strikes me upon entering the four-star hotel is the large lobby with its enormous glass front, which directs the view out to the greenery and the tall willows, whose silvery-green color complements the bright red and white tones of the furnishings and the warm wood tones of the staircase and the balcony gallery on the first floor. A pleasant mix of colors at the Bora Hot Spa Resort, where I immediately feel at ease.

Our room at the Bora Hot Spa Resort

After checking in, I'm curious to see what our room looks like. And also there is a surprise: bathroom and bedroom are not separated by a door, but only by the fact that the bed is facing the window and the balcony, and sink and shower are behind the wall unit, the bed of the Bathing facilities separates. Only the toilet is in a separate room. Here you have to know and like your roommates to be able to move freely. Incidentally, this open layout of the rooms also reflects the fact that the entire spa area of the hotelI introduce you in another article, textile-free zone is.

Bon appetit in the room

The room is very spacious with a well-equipped desk corner where we can comfortably do our computer work during the two days of our stay. This includes a minibar, where we find four drinks: a large bottle of water, a bottle of orange and lemonade and a bottle of beer. The first minibar filling is free, and if we need replenishment, we have to let you know. All other drinks we order in this way must be paid. A good scheme, as we find.

Welcome gift
A great welcome: the bulging fruit bowl

On the small side table in the cozy sitting area, which consists of a sofa and a rocking chair, we can expect a healthy welcome in the form of a bulging fruit bowl with fresh fruit that tastes just as good as it looks. No wonder! Ripen just the fresh cherries and peaches, which we can try here.

Stay in the Japan Suite at Bora Hot Spa Resort

We are accommodated in one of the hotel's comfort rooms. However, there are ways to experience the Japanese side of Bora Hot Spa Resort more intensely. The Japan suites are perfect for this: the space available in the Japan suite that we are getting to know is generous. A transparent wall unit, through the light walls of which the light illuminates the seating area, separates the living room from the bedroom in the suite. There are no doors here either.

The Japan Suite sleeps on a futon on the floor

Instead of a bed, the guest in this Bora Hot Spa Resort suite sleeps on a futon on the room's floor, which is covered with bamboo mats rather than the deep red carpet we find in our room. The coloring in the Japan suite is reserved for natural colors. The warm and bright colors from the rest of the hotel are absent here.

Like a bar, the sink line separates the bathroom from the bedroom. And here too, the whole thing is kept open, so that natural light flows into all areas of the suite. If you want to stay overnight like in Japan without taking the long journey, you can experience this in one of the two Japan suites in the Bora HotSpa Resort.

An Angus steak at Rubin Restaurant

On the first evening of our stay, we were invited to an à la carte dinner at the Rubin restaurant. I'll remember it especially for the tender steak. We found it particularly pleasant that the restaurant asked guests to keep their mobile phones switched off. Therefore, there are no photos of this meal, as you're usually accustomed to.

We start our menu with a non-alcoholic cocktail and choose our dishes. Meanwhile we enjoy our Hugo, which tastes intensely of mint. Petar and I both choose the chanterelle soup for starters. As a main course, Petar prefers the whitefish fillet with saltimbocca, black Piedmontese rice and green asparagus, while I, as a self-confessed meat lover, take the said Angus steak, which is served with pepper butter, a fruity tomato and apricot chutney, lettuce and a sweet potato tortilla à la Brasil is served.

Petar is as enthusiastic about his whitefish as I am about my tender steak, through which my knife cuts through butter. It melts on the tongue in the mouth, and I slow down the consumption of this steak as long as possible to extend the enjoyment. Tomato apricot chutney adds a fruity flavor to the steak in an extraordinary way. Only for the sweet potato tortilla, I'm not so excited. Maybe that's because I'm not a big fan of sweet potatoes. Anyway, I leave the tortilla on the left and focus instead on the wonderful steak.

By the way, you can also book half-board in the Bora HotSpa Resort. Then in the morning you get the evening menu suggestions at the breakfast table and select the desired main dishes for dinner in the morning.

Rest and relaxation in the Bora Hot Spa Resort in Radolfzell on Lake Constance

A defining characteristic of the Bora Hot Spa Resort is the tranquility it exudes. The moment we step inside, we enter another world. The surrounding nature, the colors of the furnishings, the wooden elements in the architecture, and the service all contribute to slowing down our pace of life. Here, we can unwind almost instantly. Perhaps the constant rain, which began pattering against our balcony on the second day of our stay, plays a part in this. Its gentle drizzle enhances the feeling of peace and relaxation. In any case, the surroundings, the hotel's ambiance, and the friendliness of the staff certainly contribute significantly. The proximity to the lake is another important factor, best enjoyed from the rooftop terrace and the spa area. Anyone coming here should bring plenty of time and take the time to fully appreciate the hotel's amenities.

Everyone enjoys the quiet

Even the business people who appreciate what a Bora Hot Spa Resort has to offer at this end of Lake Constance appear to enjoy the tranquillity. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why the hotel's conference rooms are popular for business events.

In conclusion, the Bora Hot Spa Resort in Radolfzell has become a popular hotel for wellness enthusiasts and business travelers in the year since its opening on May 1, 2013. Even during our three-day stay (Monday to Wednesday), it was well booked. We can wholeheartedly recommend it: the Bora Hot Spa Resort is a top-class wellness hotel and an ideal base for exploring the tri-border region at the western end of Lake Constance. The town of Stein am Rhein, for example, is just under an hour away by public bus, which is free for hotel guests with the Untersee region guest card. Among other things, we enjoyed the food there, prepared in the style of the pilgrims of old. Stone at the Rhein I tasted it at the Hotel Restaurant Rheingerbe.
