We have already been to the Fopa photo parade Involved by Michael of Explore the world. He calls twice a year for the Foto Challenge, in which the best photos of the past six months can be submitted. What could be a better occasion than to review the travels in the photos that we have experienced over the last six months? This time we were in many interesting places in different countries of the world on the road: this includes the Altmark in Saxony-Anhalt, the Castles Saxony and Principality of Liechtenstein, the unknown Tatarstan in Russia, Loch Ness and Inverness in Scotland and the green island Ireland. These weren't all of the regions we visited during this time. But it was beautiful places and great food that made the biggest impression on us. But see for yourself. These photos provide brief insights.

Nice places and great food - our second quarter 2017

I present our best impressions in six rubrics, the Michael for his Photo parade 2017 to choose from.

The most beautiful view of a castle in Saxony

The most beautiful view offered us, when we were traveling in the castles of Saxony. There we visited three baroque castles from the time of Augustus the Strong: the kennel in Dresden, Wackerbarth Castle in the midst of its vineyards on the Elbe and Moritzburg Castle. Each of these castles offered a wonderfully beautiful scenery. However, I liked the sight of Moritzburg Castle above which dark storm clouds are building.

The most beautiful landscape in Ireland

I did not find it easy to choose here, because there are many impressive landscapes in Ireland and Scotland. Finally, I decided to take this picture of an autumn morning on the Flesk River in Killarney, Ireland. There are still a few misty fogs over the river, but you can see that the day is going to be a wonderful sunny day. The light fog and the green of the landscape are at the same time a symbol for the green island of Ireland.

The nature in Scotland

But I did not want to go without the wonderful Scotland. Because even there there is a very spectacular nature, which has shown us on our flying visit. I took this picture on one of ours Rides along Loch Ness on. Here we were on the quieter side of the lake on the road and had some views like this almost for us alone. A place to enjoy, or what do you think?

Animals in Scotland

The picture that best fits this category is this bull that we discovered on a high pasture just off the Loch Ness. He strutted towards us so sublime that I immediately called him "Lord of the Willow". His friendly-looking cows and offspring couldn't keep up with him as far as his appearance was concerned. An impressive specimen of a Scottish highland cattle.

Beautiful places and great food in Liechtenstein

In Liechtenstein we were at one culinary journey of discovery on road. In addition to excellent gourmet temples, we also visited producers from the region. One of them was the Bangshof in Ruggell. There, they specialized in cheese production. In the meantime, every weekend in the summer months there is a brunch in the Hofcafé, where local sausages are also offered. In the Principality of Liechtenstein you can not only eat princely in the starred restaurants of the small Alpine country. The regional cuisine of local farmers offers delicious specialties.

Our most beautiful photo in the second quarter 2017

Our visit to Tatarstan in Russia impressed us the most on our travels in the last six months. It was our first trip to Russia. We had never heard of Tatarstan either. We were all the more excited about what awaited us there. And we were not disappointed. Both in the Tatar capital of Kazan and in the countryside we repeatedly encountered orthodox churches and impressive mosques. In some places they even stood right next to each other. In general, Tatarstan is a country that shows in a very impressive way that Muslims and Christians can coexist smoothly.

Our most beautiful photo comes from the Kul Sharif mosque in Kazan. We were allowed into the great prayer room of the mosque, a rare experience. The filigree architecture of the hall impressed us as well as the magnificent ceiling with its blue-white-golden decorations. But see for yourself.

Beautiful places and great food we discovered in 2017

Michael's photo parade is always a nice opportunity to relive the beautiful places and great food of the last few months. This time there were some new travel destinations for us that we hadn't known before: Russia, Liechtenstein and Scotland were completely new to us. But even familiar destinations like Ireland, where I worked for years, completely surprised me with one new and delicious cuisine, These were eventful months that we like to think back to.

  1. I particularly like the pictures from Ireland and Scotland ...! So green, so much nature - and then an animal star. Both places that I would like to visit once. The interior of the mosque is beautiful. Love travel greetings, Miuh

    1. Hello Miuh,

I am very happy if you like my photos. Ireland and Scotland were very impressive. We were in the region around Inverness still on the more densely populated southern edge of the Highlands. Further north, there is even more nature. The Kul Sharif mosque has just overwhelmed us with its architecture.

      Best regards,
      Monika

  2. Dear Monika, dear Petar,

But you always travel to great places! This time I also like your favorite photo at its best - and now I've learned something about Tatarstan (and just looked up, where exactly it is).

    Greetings from New York
    Petrina

    1. Dear Petrina,

That makes me very happy, if you like the photo as well. As for Tatarstan, we did not know that before our trip. On the contrary, at first I even thought it was a joke when the invitation fluttered into the house. Then the country and its capital surprised us even more.

      Greetings from the Bavarian Alztal,
      Monika

    1. Dear Gudrun,

We liked it there as well. That was our first trip to Scotland. In the three days we were there, we got to know some very nice corners of this region. It definitely whet the appetite for more. Let's see when that works.

      Best regards,
      Monika

  3. Well, I know the meat / cheese platter from somewhere ... momment .... Oh yes: I've got that on my blog in the article for the photo-parade. Only my picture was taken on an alp. But yours looks really .. yes yes .. Extensive! Tasty in any case! Nice to meet you.
    LG, Urs

    1. Hello Urs,

Since I have to look at your ham and cheese plate the same time. They are often served as a Brettljause on the pastures.

      Best regards,
      Monika

    1. Thank you, Ulrike. That was one of the best views of Loch Ness.

      Best regards,
      Monika

    1. Hello Michael,

that pleases me very much. However, the trips in the second half of the year also led us to beautiful destinations this year :).

      Best regards,
