Krumau, or Český Krumlov, is a true postcard motif. Only 85 kilometers from Passau Located a short distance away, the UNESCO World Heritage city beckons with its winding alleyways and fairytale setting. The journey takes about an hour and a half.
High above the Vltava River sits the second-largest castle in the Czech Republic. Below, the river winds its way through a medieval old town that seems like it came from another era. Small shops, galleries, and cozy restaurants invite you to linger. Art lovers shouldn't miss the Egon Schiele Center.

A little further north lies České Budějovice, about 115 kilometers away, a drive of about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Here, beer tradition blends with history and modern life.
The huge main square, surrounded by baroque townhouses, is the heart of the city. From here, all the sights are within walking distance – such as the Black Tower or the Budvar Brewery. The latter can also be visited on guided tours – including a tasting.

The former Cistercian monastery of Aldersbach lies about 30 kilometers from Passau. The drive takes only about 35 minutes—ideal for a quiet afternoon of culture and enjoyment.
Particularly impressive is the baroque Asam Church. Its interior is one of the most beautiful sacred spaces in Lower Bavaria. Right next door is the monastery brewery and museum. Here, you can learn how beer was once brewed—and how it is produced today.

Walhalla – Monument with a view
Another cultural highlight is Walhalla near Donaustauf. It is located about 120 kilometers northwest of Passau and can be reached in about 90 minutes.
